Atlanta has many ballroom dance studios that feature tango, waltz, rumba, cha cha, swing, foxtrot and more. The Daza Dance Studio in the John’s Creek/Alpharetta area has a social dance event every Friday which includes a group dance class. The elegant studio is huge with lots of space to travel around the dance floor.
With plenty of free parking, admission is $15 that includes two drink tickets for beer, wine, soda or water, and the dance lesson. A drawback to the event is the hospitality. Unfortunately the Daza staff only seems to provide hospitality to those attendees who are paying for private dance classes as most were very cold and unfriendly, with exception of one of the managers and the bartenders; the hospitality for such an upscale venue was very disappointing. However, the atmosphere is elegant and many of the attendees are very friendly.
Music will make or break any dance event. Unfortunately another drawback to this event is the music which reminds you the movie “Groundhog Day.” Every week they play the same exact set of songs like déjà vu over and over. Despite our requests for them to play Latin style cha cha, we were ignored and the staff played the same ole song list every week ad naseum. If the DJ’s on the salsa scene did that, no one would go back.
