Good live Latin music isn’t always easy to find. Now in Midtown Atlanta, the restaurant called Prickly Pear offers live Latin music and dance every Thursday night with no cover charge and free parking. As more committed dancers, my husband and I look for a variety of dance locations that make it easy to dance in a friendly, smoke-free atmosphere. We also enjoy visiting restaurants that offer dance so we can also socialize with our non-dancer friends.
Prickly Pear
Prickly Pear is a spacious, beautiful restaurant that offers live music with Orquesta Taboga on Thursday nights – no cover charge and free parking. The live music is very energetic and fun with plenty of salsa and merengue. The restaurant is quite large so they can accommodate many dancers if they move a couple of tables in front of the band.
Amazingly, the floors are hardwood, which makes it ideal for serious dancers. However, since it is a restaurant, customers tend to spill their drinks on the floor so I found the floor too sticky to wear my suede bottom dance shoes. I resorted to wearing leather bottom street shoes to successfully spin.
The restaurant does not allow smoking until 10pm. Since the band starts at 8pm, you can get in a couple of hours of dancing without stinging your lungs. The food was okay and the staff were very friendly. This is a fun Thursday night dance option with entertaining live music.
