The New Year marks our calendars as a reminder of the preciousness of time. The years tend to fly by quicker than we could ever remember. Celebrations take place for the count down as many may traditionally overindulge to bring in the New Year. However, others desire different approach to the New Year and wonder how to make the celebration a meaningful tradition that doesn’t require a hangover. Resolutions often feel like a guilty reminder of things you should do but never seem to master. As discussed in the article Mind over matter: You’ve got the power, “When attempting to make lifestyle changes, looking at your mind and thoughts are just as important as the physical aspects of your life. To make successful changes, you need to also understand and harness the power of your mind.”
Setting your intentions at the New Year can be a powerful ritual to set your path for the New Year. Out with the old and in with the new, try these symbolic techniques for your New Year intentions.
Out with the old: We tend to hold onto old baggage, thoughts and patterns that do not serve us. Introspectively writing down those things that you’d like to let go of can be a great first step in getting rid of the old baggage. At the New Year, perhaps at your fireplace or outside with a candle, simply bring in the New Year with casting out the old thoughts and patterns. Thank it for the lessons you have learned and release it by burning the what you had written (or alternatively tear it up).
In with the new: The power of intention begins when you can imagine your heart’s desire and see yourself in a place of health, love, abundance and happiness. A wonderful New Year’s ritual may be to create a vision board. Either draw, paint or take images from magazines and create a visual depiction of how you intend to see your future.
However you decide to bring in the New Year, please be safe and look out for your friends and family. Peace, love and prosperity to all during the New Year and beyond. Blessings.
