Sex in relationships: Setting the stage for tantric sex. In the first article, Men and women sex: What is tantra or tantric sex?, we introduced the origins of tantra sex. The second article, Man and woman sex: Setting the stage for tantric sex, we discuss how to set the atmosphere that can assist with tantric exploration.
Those interested in deeper intimacy with their partner can begin with setting the atmosphere that can assist with tantric exploration. Tips for setting the stage for tantra:
1. Create a romantic setting
Whether it is your bedroom or living room, transform an area for sensuality. From a candlelight bubble bath to erotic music and sexy lingerie, setting the stage helps develop the eroticism often needed to move beyond the quickie into the realm of a full, loving experience.
2. Take time for romance
Use dance, massage or poetry as a way to create the seduction and erotic teasing. Essential oils like jasmine, rose and sandalwood have been noted for having aphrodisiac properties. Smell is very erotic so make sure you are clean with fresh breath before you enter the romance zone.
3. Experiment with intimacy
Discovery Fit and Health suggests fully focusing on each other (rather than on the goal of sex), by experimenting with various intimate rituals.
The only time we ever think about breathing is when we have trouble doing it, yet conscious breathing can be a powerful aid in sexual growth,” according to sex therapist Marty Klein, Ph.D. of Palo Alto, California. Breathing exercises also quiet the mind and help you focus on each other.
Try this exercise: Sit quietly, cross-legged, facing each other. Rest your hands on your knees with your palms facing up. As you gaze into your partner’s eyes, take soft, but deep breaths. Keep your eyes open, gazing beyond the eyes, into the soul. Although this may feel awkward at first, sustained eye contact is essential for building intimacy.
Now, pay attention to your breathing. Begin to breathe at the same pace, bringing air slowly in through your nose and exhaling through your mouth. Maintain eye contact while you breathe together. Practice this exercise until you can sustain eye contact and harmonized breathing for about 10 minutes.
